Today’s beatdown is a tribute to Gary Wieneke, a legendary Illinois track and field coach who passed away on July 8 and father of Brut (F3 Greenwood).

13 reps in the warmups represent the number of Big Ten Titles he won. 5 exercises represent the number of Olympians he coached.
Pax moseyed 4 laps in the parking lots (both upper and lower). 4 laps represent the number of times his team placed top 3 at the National Indoor meet.
The Thang:
- Merkins
- LBC’s
- Dips
- Shoulder Presses w coupon
- Squats
- Fluttas
- Kettle Bell Swings (coupon)
83 reps of each of 7 exercises above. After each exercise, 8 Burpees. [The 83 reps were modified to 7 rounds of 10 reps each with the 8th round at 13 reps. 7 Burpees were completed after each of the 8 rounds.] Mountie provided musical accompaniment while the pax did the work.
The 7 Burpees and 8 rounds (or 7 exercises and 8 burpees of the original Thang) represent the date of Coach Wieneke’s passing, 7/8. The 83 total reps represent his age.
At least 1 pax moseyed 800m around the 2 soccer fields (2 laps). This finale mosey represents Coach Wieneke’s best event. He was known as the “Einstein of the 800m” because 11 of his runners combined for 27 individual Big Ten titles!
Count-o-rama. Name-o-rama. COT. The workout went overtime, so we kept it short and sweet.
