Cloudy, 32 degrees, snow cover on ground, 9 Pax: Photo Finish, Mulligan, Scar, Brisket, Dos Equis, and Mountie; with WallE and Gobbler via Zoom, and Dick Clark on Q.
For the Winter Solstice, Dick Clark decided to liven up the nice polite exchange of holiday cards with some workout motivation—Pro Wrestling Style!
Warmups
We started in the parking lot on with the regular warmups:
- Run in place
- Side straddle hop x10
- Stretches
- Arm Circles x10
- Imperial Walkers x10
The Thang
We moseyed to our covered area where everyone found a polite holiday card waiting for him, numbered 1-8. Everyone picked up his card, and said in his best Hallmark-special happy voice, “How nice, I it looks like I got…” And then he opened the card, switched to a respectable WWF-champion voice, and called out the exercise, with a mini-motivational speech thrown in: “… Sumo Squats—don’t cheat your body, Daffodil!”
After the inspirational readings, we set the repeating timer, turned on the music, and did two rounds of one minute stations, with 45 seconds rest each.
Stations:
- Mountain Climbers – Make it burn
- Alpos – Watch the champion in action
- Flutters – Let’s see it
- Burpees – Show me what you got
- Sumo Squats – Don’t cheat your body
- Curl and Press – Bring it home to mama
- Big Boi Situps – Pick it up
- Merkins or Carolina Drydocks – Feel the pain
The pet names kept us going: Cupcake, Doll-face, Prima Donna, Sugar Plumb, Daffodil, Sunshine, Buttercup, and Kitty cat.
Two rounds was Beatdown enough—We stretched it out and basked in the glory of victory—in the ring.
COT
The shortest daylight of the year was a point in optimism – the worst day for some, but it means every other day will be better, a little bit every day. And we talked about healthy habits—it is really easy to grab an extra helping of food, or especially a beer or a drink, but keep it in control, so you can be strong for each other and the community.
